BACKGROUND: Clinical studies have reported the beneficial effects of unfermented soy product consumption on blood lipids in various populations. However, contradictory results have been reported regarding the influence of unfermented soy product consumption on blood lipids in postmenopausal women. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of diets with unfermented soy products compared with diets without unfermented soy products on blood lipids in postmenopausal women. METHODS: The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase electronic databases were searched for eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published up to February 21, 2023. RCTs were included if they were published in English and investigated the effect of unfermented soy product consumption on blood lipids in postmenopausal women who had discontinued hormone replacement therapy at least 3 months before randomization. A random-effects model was used to calculate the overall effect size of the mean difference (MD) and 95% CI. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias Tool for Randomized Trials, version 2. RESULTS: Twenty-nine RCTs involving 2,457 participants were included. The results showed that, compared with the control group that did not consume unfermented soy products, consumption of unfermented soy products significantly reduced total cholesterol (TC) (MD, -9.46 mg/dL [to convert mg/dL cholesterol to mmol/L, multiply mg/dL by 0.0259; to convert mmol/L cholesterol to mg/dL, multiply by 38.7]; 95% CI -15.04 to -3.89 mg/dL; P = .001) and triglycerides (TGs) (MD, -10.86 mg/dL [to convert mg/dL TGs to mmol/L, multiply mg/dL by 0.0113; to convert mmol/L TGs to mg/dL, multiply mmol/L by 88.6]; 95% CI -19.70 to -2.02 mg/dL; P = .016), while significantly increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD, 2.32 mg/dL; 95% CI 0.87 to 3.76 mg/dL; P = .002) in postmenopausal women, but had no significant effect on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD, -4.55 mg/dL; 95% CI -10.90 to 1.80 mg/dL; P = .160). Results of soy preparation subgroup analysis showed that soy isolate protein significantly reduced TC and soy protein-containing isoflavones significantly reduced TC and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Furthermore, unfermented soy product consumption significantly reduced TC, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and TG levels in postmenopausal women with lipid disorders and TGs in healthy postmenopausal women. CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that unfermented soy product consumption reduced TC and TG levels significantly, and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in postmenopausal women. The findings of this review contribute to the evidence-base for dietary management of blood lipids in postmenopausal women.

Traditional Chinese exercises (TCEs) have great value in the prevention and effective treatment of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Our purpose in this study was to summarize present research trends and future directions regarding the link between TCEs and CVD by bibliometrics analysis. We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for all original articles and reviews on TCEs for CVD published in English before August 7, 2022 using CiteSpace 5.8.R3 and Microsoft Excel 2019 software, and we displayed the results in the form of network maps, line graphs, and tables. We initially obtained 725 articles. Our results showed that the United States was the most influential country in this line of research, with Harvard University the most prolific institution in the field, and, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine was the most productive journal for these articles. The highest-frequency keywords in this research area were Tai Chi, exercise, blood pressure, quality of life, and older adult. Additionally, important research topics included heart rate variability, quality of life, meta-analysis, Baduanjin exercise, and breathing exercise. In addition, our results revealed that among all the TCEs, Tai Chi, Baduanjin, and Qigong emerged as the most extensively studied. However, it's important to note our exclusive focus on literature published in English may have led to our missing important results. Future investigators should broaden their search to include other databases and languages to present a still more comprehensive overview of this field.

Although studies have shown severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes in patients with pre-existing coronary heart disease (CHD), the prognosis of COVID-19 patients with pre-existing CHD remains uncertain primarily due to the limited number of patients in existing studies. This study aimed to investigate the impacts of pre-existing CHD on the prognosis of COVID-19 patients. Five electronic databases were searched for eligible studies. This article focused on cohort and case-control studies involving the prognosis of COVID-19 patients with pre-existing CHD. The meta-analysis was performed using a random effects model. The odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used as valid indicators. The study was registered in PROSPERO with the identifier: CRD42022352853. A total of 81 studies, involving 157,439 COVID-19 patients, were included. The results showed that COVID-19 patients with pre-existing CHD exhibited an elevated risk of mortality (OR = 2.45; 95%CI: [2.04, 2.94], P < 0.001), severe/critical COVID-19 (OR = 2.57; 95%CI: [1.98, 3.33], P < 0.001), Intensive Care Unit or Coronary Care Unit (ICU/CCU) admission: (OR = 2.75, 95%CI: [1.61, 4.72], P = 0.002), and reduced odds of discharge/recovery (OR = 0.43, 95%CI: [0.28, 0.66], P < 0.001) compared to COVID-19 patients without pre-existing CHD. Subgroup analyses indicated that the prognosis of COVID-19 patients with pre-existing CHD was influenced by publication year, follow-up duration, gender, and hypertension. In conclusion, pre-existing CHD significantly increases the risk of poor prognosis in patients with COVID-19, particularly in those male or hypertensive patients.

BACKGROUND: The objective was to discuss the impact of occupational therapy on different domains of quality of life in breast cancer patients. We performed a literature search to identify articles published before June 27, 2023, using the following databases: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Scopus. OBJECTIVE: The objective was to discuss the impact of occupational therapy on different domains of quality of life in breast cancer patients. DATA SOURCES: We performed a literature search to identify articles published before June 27, 2023, using the following databases: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Scopus. METHODS: This study was reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement. Randomized controlled trials that reported the effects of occupational therapy on quality of life in breast cancer patients were identified. Two reviewers independently assessed eligibility, extracted data, and determined risks of bias. Pooled standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using random-effects meta-analyses. Galbraith plots, meta-regression analysis, subgroup analysis, and sensitivity analysis were used to identify heterogeneity in treatment effects. RESULTS: Eight studies were included, with a total of 543 patients. The experimental group exhibited better global health (pooled SMD = 0.640, 95% CI = 0.251-1.028, P = .001), physical health (pooled SMD = 0.640, 95% CI = 0.251-1.028, P = .019), social health (pooled SMD = 0.251, 95% CI = 0.011-0.490, P = .040), and cognitive function (pooled SMD = 0.863, 95% CI = 0.266-1.460, P = .05) and improve fatigue (pooled SMD = -0.389, 95% CI = -0.586 to -0.192, P = .000), and role function (pooled SMD = 0.287, 95% CI = 0.029-0.546, P = .029) than the control group. The 2 groups exhibited comparable emotional health (pooled SMD = 0.243, 95% CI = -0.051 to 0.536, P = .105) and pain (pooled SMD = -0.312, 95% CI = -0.660 to 0.036, P = .079). CONCLUSION: The current evidence shows that occupational therapy can improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients, especially their global health, physical health, social health, cognitive function, fatigue, and role function.

AIMS: Cardiovascular disease is a prevalent worldwide disease, and cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) include hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, and adiposity. Healthy diets are the critical factor in controlling these CMRFs risks, especially cereal bran which contains many beneficial substances. However, there are still contradictions in the indicators of improving CMRFs by bran from different grain sources or even the same grain source. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of cereal bran consumption on CMRFs. DATA SYNTHESIS: Eligible randomized controlled studies were searched in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science until February 2023. The random-effects model was used to calculate overall effect sizes of weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Finally, 22 studies were included in the present meta-analysis. Compared to the control, cereal bran consumption had no significant effect on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, waist circumference, and body mass index, but could reduce systolic blood pressure (WMD: -1.59; 95% CI: -2.45 to -0.72), diastolic blood pressure (WMD: -1.96; 95% CI: -3.89 to -0.04), total cholesterol (WMD: -0.19; 95% CI: -0.34 to -0.04), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (WMD: -0.21; 95% CI: -0.38 to -0.04), and fasting blood glucose (WMD: -0.13; 95% CI: -0.24 to -0.01). Additionally, oat bran can lower blood lipids in individuals with lipid diseases and blood pressure in obese or hypertensive patients. CONCLUSIONS: Cereal bran could significantly reduce blood pressure, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose in individuals with CMRFs, and oat bran had the most obvious effect.

As one of the most significant probiotics, Limosilactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri) has been exploited as a nutritional supplement. We hypothesized that L. reuteri consumption might improve the significant risk factors of cardiovascular disease, including blood pressure, blood lipid, and blood glucose. However, previous clinical studies have shown controversial results. This study aims to explore the effect of L. reuteri consumption on these risk factors. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched for eligible randomized controlled trials published before May 2022. A total of 6 studies with 4 different L. reuteri strains and including 512 participants were included. The results showed that L. reuteri consumption significantly reduced total cholesterol (TC) by -0.26 mmol/L compared with the control group. In contrast, it did not affect systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), or triglycerides. Subgroup analysis showed a significant reduction in TC when participants were <55 years old, had a body mass index between 25 and 30, or had hypercholesterolemia. In addition, TC decreased significantly when L. reuteri supplementation was >5 × 109 colony-forming unit or the length of the intervention was <12 weeks. Strain subgroup analysis showed that L. reuteri NCIMB 30242 significantly reduced TC and LDL-C. In conclusion, L. reuteri consumption has a significant TC-lowering effect, which can effectively reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease associated with hypercholesterolemia. However, the results do not support the effectiveness of L. reuteri consumption on other metabolic outcomes. Further examination of larger sample sizes is needed to confirm these findings.

OBJECTIVES: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effects of telemedicine-based follow-up management on adults with obstructive sleep apnea. METHODS: Publications were searched in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Embase. Studies were selected according to the predefined screening criteria, and their qualities were assessed by the Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. The statistical analyses were performed using Stata12.0 software. It was registered in PROSPERO with the number: CRD42021276414. RESULTS: A total of 33 articles with 8,689 participants were included. Telemedicine-based follow-up management improved average daily continuous positive airway pressure usage by 36 min (weighted mean difference:0.61;95% confidence interval: 0.39 to 0.83), and the percentage of days with continuous positive airway pressure usage more than four hours by 10.67% in obstructive sleep apnea patients. The meta-analysis of good continuous positive airway pressure compliance showed telemedicine-based follow-up management did not lead to good continuous positive airway pressure compliance (odds ratio: 1.13;95% confidence interval: 0.72 to 1.76). The pooled mean difference of sleep quality was 0.15 (standardized mean difference:0.15; 95% confidence interval: -0.03 to 0.32), and daytime sleepiness was -0.26 (weighted mean difference: -0.26;95% confidence interval: -0.79 to 0.28). The pooled mean difference of apnea hypopnea index was -0.53 (95% confidence interval: -3.58 to 2.51). As for the overall quality of life, the pooled mean difference was -0.25 (standardized mean difference: -0.25;95% confidence interval: -0.25 to 0.76). CONCLUSION: Telemedicine-based follow-up management was beneficial for continuous positive airway pressure compliance of obstructive sleep apnea patients within six months. However, it could not improve sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, the severity of obstructive sleep apnea, and quality of life in obstructive sleep apnea patients compared with traditional follow-up. Moreover, it was more cost-effective, but there was no consensus on whether it would increase the workload of medical staff.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of nanoparticles on gouty arthritis, and to provide evidence for the preclinical application of nanoparticles in gouty arthritis and ideas for nanomedicine improvement for nanoparticle researchers. METHODS: Five databases including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase were searched for eligible studies until April 2022. The quality of the selected studies was assessed by SYRCLE's risk of bias (RoB) tool, and the random-effects model was used to calculate the overall effect sizes of weighted mean differences (WMD). RESULTS: Ten studies met the inclusion criteria. Results showed that nanoparticles were effective in reducing uric acid levels (WMD: -4.91; 95% confidence interval (CI): - 5.41 to - 4.41; p < 0.001), but were not better than allopurinol (WMD: -0.20; 95% CI: - 0.42 to 0.02; p = 0.099). It was worth noting that the nanoparticles were safer than allopurinol. Subgroup analyses indicated that nanoparticle encapsulated substance, animal species, nanoparticle dosage, animal quantity, and animal gender were all sources of heterogeneity. CONCLUSION: The nanoparticles are safe medications for gouty arthritis which can effectively reduce uric acid levels in rodents. Although the results are still uncertain, it is expected to have certain clinical application value. The nanoparticles may be the preclinical medications for gouty arthritis in the future.

Flaxseed is a functional food because of its high content of alpha-linolenic acid, lignans, and dietary fiber. We hypothesized that flaxseed supplementation would improve cardiometabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, clinical trials have shown conflicting results. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine the impact of flaxseed supplementation in patients with T2DM. Randomized controlled trials were systematically searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Embase until 25 March 2022. A total of 13 studies were included, and the results showed that flaxseed supplementation significantly reduced hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in participants with T2DM compared with the control group. In contrast, it had no effects on body weight, body mass index, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose (FBG), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance, quantitative insulin sensitivity check index, and lipid parameters. In the subgroup analyses, FBG was significantly reduced with supplementation of flaxseed in participants with baseline FBG ≥8.0 mmol/L or baseline HbA1c ≥7.0%. And a significant decrease in HbA1c in participants with baseline HbA1c ≥7.0% after flaxseed supplementation. In addition, subgroup analyses indicated that whole flaxseed supplementation significantly increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and reduced total cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in participants with T2DM. In conclusion, flaxseed supplementation significantly reduced HbA1c in participants with T2DM, especially those with poorly controlled blood sugar levels. However, larger scale studies with better designs are needed to confirm insignificant and/or ambiguous findings.

BACKGROUND: Current clinical trials have had controversial results regarding the effects of oat consumption on blood pressure (BP) in adults. OBJECTIVE: The meta-analysis was conducted to systematically evaluate the effects of oat consumption on BP in adults. METHODS: Electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Embase were searched until December 13, 2021 for eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). RCTs published in English and that explored the effects of oat consumption on BP in adults under matched total energy intake were included. Meta-analysis using a random-effects model was performed. The pooled effect size was expressed as mean difference and 95% CI. I2 statistics were used to quantify heterogeneity. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias Tool, version 2. RESULTS: Twenty-one RCTs involving 1,569 participants were included. The pooled results indicated that consuming oats reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP) significantly (mean difference = -2.82 mm Hg; 95% CI -4.72 to -0.93 mm Hg; P = .004). Subgroup analyses indicated that oat consumption reduced SBP significantly in hypertensive participants, or when compared with control group participants who consumed refined grains. No significant reduction in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was observed after oat consumption (mean difference = -1.16 mm Hg; 95% CI -2.37 to 0.04 mm Hg; P = .060). However, the sensitivity analysis of DBP, removal of individual studies, or "leave one out meta-analysis," showed a significant reduction in DBP, suggesting that the pooled result in the main analysis was not robust. Subgroup analyses showed that oat consumption did significantly reduce DBP in participants with baseline BP in the prehypertensive range. Both SBP and DBP were significantly reduced when the dosage of oat consumption was ≥5 g/day ß-glucan, or the oat consumption duration was ≥8 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: Oat consumption is effective in reducing SBP levels, particularly in individuals whose baseline BP is in the hypertensive range or when compared with control group participants consuming refined grains at matched total energy intake.

The application of phytohormones is a viable technique to increase the efficiency of phytoremediation in heavy metal-contaminated soils. The objective of this study was to determine how the application of 24-epibrassinolide (EBR), a brassinosteroid analog, could regulate root growth and tolerance to cadmium (Cd) stress in Kentucky bluegrass. As a result, the number of lateral root primordia and total root length in the Cd-treated seedlings decreased by 33.1 % and 56.5 %, respectively. After the application of EBR, Cd accumulation in roots and leaves, and the negative effect of Cd on root growth were reduced under Cd stress. Additionally, the expression of the brassinosteroid signaling gene PpBRI1 was significantly upregulated by exogenous EBR. Moreover, exogenous EBR upregulated the expression of genes encoding antioxidant enzymes and improved the activity of antioxidant enzymes, thereby reduced oxidative stress in roots. Finally, targeted hormonomics analysis highlighted the utility of the application of EBR to alleviate the effect of Cd on the reduction in auxin (IAA) content and the increase in ethylene (ACC) content. These were known to be associated with the upregulation in the expression of auxin biosynthesis gene PpYUCCA1 and downregulation in the expression of ethylene biosynthesis gene PpACO1 in the roots treated with Cd stress. Overall, the application of EBR alleviated Cd-induced oxidative stress in addition to improving root elongation and lateral root growth crosstalk with auxin and ethylene in Kentucky bluegrass subjected to Cd stress. This study further highlights the potential role of brassinosteroids in improving the efficiency of phytoremediation for Cd-contaminated soils.

Bidirectional cross flow wetlands with different plant species were set to investigate seasonal variation in radial oxygen loss (ROL) and its effects on COD and NH4+-N removal. Findings demonstrated a strong seasonal effect on the rate of ROL, with Arundo donax var.versicolor showing the highest ROL of 2.99 µmol·h-1·g-1. Additionally, ROL showed strong positive correlations with plant total biomass (P < 0.01), aboveground biomass (P < 0.01), height, maximum root length (P < 0.01), root porosity (P < 0.01), and removal efficiency of COD and NH4+-N (P < 0.01). Furthermore, high-throughput sequencing analysis of substrate samples from three wetland units planted with Thalia dealbata, Canna indica and Arundo donax var. versicolor revealedProteobacteria as the predominant rhizospheric phylum. Relative abundance of Alpha- and Gamma-Proteobacteria were higher in the Arundo donax var.versicolor samples due to its higher oxygen transport capacity. These results demonstrate that root properties are important determinants for selecting appropriate plants for constructed wetland.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to summarize the evidence for the association between snoring and hypertension and the effect of snoring on hypertension in men and/or women. METHODS: We searched the articles in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Embase published up to 12 November 2020 to evaluate the association between snoring and hypertension. Studies were selected according to the predefined screening criteria and their qualities were assessed by Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Evaluation Scale. The odds ratio and 95% confidence interval were used as effective indicators. It was registered in PROSPERO with the number: CRD42021224912. RESULTS: According to the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 11 studies including eight prospective cohort studies and three cross-sectional studies were included. The results showed that compared with non-snoring participants, snoring significantly increased the risk of hypertension in both men and women [odds ratio (OR) = 1.32, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.23-1.42; men: odds ratio (OR) = 1.32; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.18-1.49; women: odds ratio (OR) = 1.26; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.14-1.40]. Besides, the risk of hypertension was significantly increased when the snoring frequency was ≥4 nights/week [frequency≥4 nights/week: odds ratio (OR) = 1.42; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.21-1.66; 4 nights/week >frequency>0: odds ratio (OR) = 1.23; 95% confidence interval (CI),1.13-1.34]. CONCLUSIONS: Snoring is considered as an independent predictor of hypertension in both men and women, which may play a role in the prevention and control of hypertension. People who snore frequently should pay close attention to their blood pressure levels to prevent hypertension.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of combined aerobic and resistance exercise on blood pressure (BP) in postmenopausal women. The results of this study will provide an effective means for postmenopausal women to control BP and reduce the morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS: Eligible studies were searched in five electronic databases until November 2020, and 11 randomized controlled trials that met the inclusion criteria were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The random-effects model was used to calculate overall effect sizes of weighted mean differences (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). This study was registered in PROSPERO with the registration number: CRD42021225546. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the aerobic combined resistance exercise significantly decreased the systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) by 0.81 mmHg (95% CI, -1.34 to -0.28) and 0.62 mmHg (95% CI, -1.11 to -0.14), respectively. The results of the meta-analysis also indicated that a significant reduction in brachial-to-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) of - 1.18 m/s (95% CI, -1.81 to -0.56) and heart rate (HR) of -0.22 beats/min (95% CI: -0.42 to -0.02) after combined aerobic and resistance exercise intervention. Subgroup analysis showed that postmenopausal women ≥60 years of age who were overweight or had a normal baseline BP were more sensitive to the combined aerobic and resistance exercise. When combined aerobic and resistance exercise frequency < 3 times/week, weekly exercise time ≥ 150 min, or the duration of exercise lasted for 12 weeks, the SBP and DBP of postmenopausal women could be reduced more effectively. CONCLUSIONS: The present study indicates that combined aerobic and resistance exercise can significantly reduce BP in postmenopausal women. Accordingly, combined aerobic and resistance exercise may be an effective way to prevent and manage hypertension in postmenopausal women.

Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), a grass species with superior tillering capacity, plays a potential role in the phytoremediation of cadmium (Cd)-contaminated soils. Tiller production is inhibited in response to serious Cd stress. However, the regulatory mechanism of Cd stress-induced inhibition of tiller development is not well documented. To address this issue, we investigated the phenotype, the expression levels of genes involved in axillary bud initiation and bud outgrowth, and endogenous hormone biosynthesis and signaling pathways in seedlings of perennial ryegrass under Cd stress. The results showed that the number of tillers and axillary buds in the Cd-treated seedlings decreased by 67% and 21%, respectively. The suppression of tiller production in the Cd-treated seedlings was more closely associated with the inhibition of axillary bud outgrowth than with bud initiation. Cd stress upregulated the expression level of genes related to axillary bud dormancy and downregulated bud activity genes. Additionally, genes involved in strigolactone biosynthesis and signaling, auxin transport and signaling, and cytokinin degradation were upregulated in Cd-treated seedlings, and cytokinin biosynthesis gene expression were decreased by Cd stress. The content of zeatin in the Cd-treated pants was significantly reduced by 69~85% compared to the control plants. The content of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) remains constant under Cd stress. Overall, Cd stress induced axillary bud dormancy and subsequently inhibited axillary bud outgrowth. The decrease of zeatin content and upregulation of genes involved in strigolactone signaling and bud dormancy might be responsible for the inhibition of axillary bud outgrowth.

Seventeen α-aminophosphonates are synthesized. Their compositions and structures are established by EA, UV, FT-IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, (31)P NMR and ESI-MS. Compounds 1-4 are confirmed by X-ray crystallography. PTP inhibition shows compounds 1-5, 12, 15 are moderate competitive inhibitors with some selectivity. The most potent inhibitor is compound 5 with the lowest IC(50) value about 6.64 µM against PTP1B, about 2-fold and 25-fold stronger than against TCPTP and PTP-MEG2 while it doesn't inhibit SHP-1 and SHP-2. The binding constant of 5 to PTP1B is 2.23 × 10(5) M(-1) and binding ratio approximates 1:1. Cell viability and apoptosis assays indicate 5 is cell permeable with lower cytotoxicity. The results indicate α-aminophosphonates are possibly developed to effective and selective inhibitors of PTPs.

A dinuclear Cu(II) complex, [Cu(2)(µ-IDA)(phen)(3)(NO(3))]NO(3)·4H(2)O (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, H(2)IDA = iminodiacetic acid), was found to potently and selectively inhibit T-cell protein tyrosine phosphatase, and lead to the anti-proliferation and apoptosis of C6 glioma cells.
